In the harbor of Genoa, a ship is docked from time immemorial, an old warship used as an underage rieducational institute. Its name is ‟Garaventa”.
 
The Garaventa lies still in the harbor,
and so it’s been for many years, motionless through time,
fastened to the earth by strong hawsers
and to the mud of the sea bottom by strong chains.
The Garaventa is never setting sail,
the Garaventa is never setting sail.
 
A seagull is flying, playing with the wind,
white clouds are chasing after one another in the sky.
Days pass, and months, and seasons,
the cargo hold is full of curses.
The Garaventa is never setting sail,
the Garaventa is never setting sail.
 
The screw is still, it’s a withered clover
caught in the grips of a hundred braids of seashells,
the deck is washed by tear drops,
the darkness is broken by a single lament.
The Garaventa is never setting sail,

Look: in the dark of the hatchway,
a thousand hopes lie buried,
they are waiting for a ribbon of light from the deck,
and in the meantime they are rotting miserably.
