Tzfat

In a side street,
a small synagogue in Tzfat,
the rabbi of the town

stands a jew at the door,
caught in the excitement.
The feeling is deep
from those challah
He didn't know much,
but suddenly he felt a desire
to please the Creator.
In his scant perception he decides
to start bringing to the Creator
the showbread from today on.

He conveys the whole plan, each word
to his wife:
to bake two nice challahs
every week.
On Friday, he is excited to go
to complete his goal.
He brings the challahs to the synagogue.
A heavenly fragrance.

With so much naivety
With so much pleasantness
he puts them into the Torah Ark
A silent invocation -
He mutters a prayer
for the Creator to accept the oblation

In the morning of Friday,
the synagogue servant is getting ready.
He does not procrastinate:
he washes and cleans
the synagogue in preparation of Shabbat.
And in his own home
it is the end of the world
There is no money to prepare Shabbat there.
He approaches the Torah Ark,
pleading the Creator.
And here, he cannot believe his eyes.

I am so shocked,
I can't believe what happens here.
I am gladdened by the Heaven,
I was sent
so nice challahs.
My prayer was accepted,
I received an answer
Now, I can go home with peace of mind.

And since then, every week
the heavenly fragrance.
The Jew brings challahs.
The servant takes them home.

Every Shabbat, the Jew looks
at the Torah Ark, he stands there with delight
as the acceptance of his oblation
The challahs fly up
His heart exults with joy
I gladdened The Creator high above
with the showbread once again.

The rabbi is standing not far away.
He is watching from the side.
He is not fond of how it all goes on.
He does not like the idea.
He feels very much uneasy
An end should be put to this disgrace.

your sentence was decided

The Creator says: “I will take it,
if only you mean it, with full truth.
As an oblation, it will become desired”.
