Duel of the Valiant
How sad my friends areFor what I'm about to sing
They were witnesses
To the tragedy at the altar
I recognized Erasmus to be
A serious and formal man
From the ranch of Mr. Renato
He was the best herdsman
Vincent was impulsive
But with a good heart
Eleanor, the flower of the village
Made him lose his mind
They found themselves face to face
Eleanor looked gorgeous
And when Vincent stopped her
He wanted to abuse her honor
But Eleanor answered,
'I have to belong to Erasmus
Your friend must be respected
You must know that.'
Vincent screamed violently,
'If you won't come with me
I swear to God, I'm not lying
You won't be with him either.'
Vincent, very boldly
Shot her two times
She fell dead, a senseless death
But she died a virgin
Then he went to look for Erasmus
And Erasmus answered him
And in that shootout
At last Vincent fell
In the shadow of a peach tree
I have to sing a corrido1
The one of Vincent and Erasmus
Great friends of the altar
- 1. A corrido is a narrative song and poetry, especially popular in Mexico, that forms a ballad, of which this song is an example.
