• 2. A literal translation of “gledanje” would be “watching”, and “mi smo se gledali” would be “we watched each other”. However, in this context it has a romantic connotation. In those times, “gledanje” was used to express that a young man and woman were romantically interested in each other. I decided to use “my first crush” and “whose eyes met mine” because it stays true to the original meaning while keeping a dash of romance
• 3. A chaika is a fast wooden sailboat designed for battle. It could carry up to 35 people, and it moved around via sails or paddles. In this area, it was mainly used on the Danube.
