Kondratjevo polka
Only the stone foundation remainsThe wind on the stones plays the Kondratjevo polka1
Ilkka feels like crying, Kaarina is studying the map
Osku is looking for the camera
Returning to the childhood landscape of my mind
I'm driving on a forked path
One us is solemn, another bursts out laughing
The third one is telling a confusing story to the driver.
On that side of the border where everything is leaning
It will all remain leaning, unless it falls
Leaving a footprint into the sand of my old yard
The wind on plays the Kondratjevo polka (x2)
Antti and Laila walked to the altar 2
In the year of thirty-seven.
Osvald3 was born first, and then Kaarina
In the summer of thirty-nine
That summer was very warm
The warmest that Laila could remember
She didn't really look back on other summers
In her cool garden swing
On that side of the border everything was dearer
It remained dear, finally Antti fell.4
A footprint was left into the the sand of the old yard
The wind played the Kondratjevo polka
Only the stone foundation remains
Covered in celandine poppies and wormwood
For a long time the dust stays floating above the road to Viborg
Jussi is driving towards the Vaalimaa checkpoint
Fifty ways to forget
Fifity little stories
Which the wind wants to cradle
Shaking willow herb fluff by the road
On that side of the border where everything is leaning
It will all remain leaning, unless it falls
Leaving a footprint into the sand of my old yard
The wind on plays the Kondratjevo polka (x2)
