Like This, Riding the Train

They all get off at the next station.
When the packed train
pulls into that station,
I’ll sit down.
 
Sometimes, I’m at a loss at what to do.
I want to be where I can be alone.
Yet I want to be needed
by somebody else, too.
 
Today, I’m kind of worn out.
Did I push myself too hard?
I can't become more than me.
So no-good days exist too, don't they?
 
Like this, riding the train.
I want to go any and everywhere.
A place where I can return to myself -
I wish to look for it.
Not losing to anybody -
it’s okay if I can’t grow that strong,
as is laughing slightly more tomorrow.
 
Comparing myself to other people
has left me feeling daunted.
Refusing surrender and forcing my way
turned out to be a mistake.
 
Even still, they weren’t complete failures.
Sunk in bitterness.
Of courage and kindness,
I may have learned a bit.
 
If there’s light, without doubt,
it's there so shadows can be born.
If you’re alive, days of smiling
aren't all that will come your way.
At any time, the important thing
isn’t seeking to erase those shadows.
It's walking on alongside them.
 
Like this, riding the train.
I want to go any and everywhere.
At times, let's forget everything
and take a breath. Not losing to anybody -
it’s okay if I can’t grow that strong,
as is laughing slightly more tomorrow.
