The Rest Stop

With an ice cream in front of me
and death in the mind
sitting at a bar in Piazza Marina,
I watch two flies love each other on my hand,
like heartbeats
I hear hammers beating on the rails,
I wonder why I live,
what cry or what fall awaits me around the corner,
I remember another hot sun like this
on my shaved head of a soldier,
another wait, another escape, another burrow.
 
Now I pay, I get up,
this day is wrong,
this one and the others before,
I am an unhappy man.
