Elsewhere
Every single boy and girl of my ageIs, oftentimes, somewhere else
Their eyes gazing to the skies, to the blue1
Into love and the ocean
I wonder where they are at - and they say
They tell me: elsewhere
They tell me: elsewhere
Higher2
From the top of some ivory towers
Elsewhere is all there's to see
Nothing to do but tricks, black magic illusion
Brought back from elsewhere
We don't talk anymore3, but we do sometimes meet4
Someplace, between two emotional
Elevators - we sigh, desire one another5
We desi-, we desire
Higher
I wonder where they are at - they tell me
They tell me: elsewhere
They tell me: higher
Higher
I dreamed of some green grass6
I wanted some green grass7
They told me: elsewhere

Higher
- 1. lit. 'They have eyes (looking towards) the skies, gazing into space'
- 2. note the similarity in pronunciation between 'ailleurs' and 'higher' (except for the 'h', these words would sound quite similar, especially if pronounced by a French-speaker)
- 3. lit. 'We don't speak to one another anymore'
- 4. lit. 'we come across each other sometimes'
- 5. lit. 'we sigh, and then we desire one another'
- 6. lit.'I dreamed of some grass'. note the potential double meaning of the French 'herbe', which can refer to both the grass that grows from the soil to make gardens and to the weed one can smoke
- 7. lit. 'I wanted some grass'
