And our watch fires are still burning on the peaks of the Carpathian Mountains
The water of Nyitra, Ipoly and the little Hernád are still clear
But they’ll turn red if we don’t get everything, everything back!
 

• 1. An area which was taken from Hungary in the Treaty of Trianon (1920) but it was taken back later and it belonged to Hungary again until 1945.
  A Hungarian flag was erected there in 1938, that’s what this line is referring to.
  
• 2. A city that was cut into a southern and northern section according to the Treaty of Trianon (1920).
  The northern part belongs to Slovakia (Czechoslovakia back then) and the southern part belongs to Hungary.
