I• THE EXPIATION OF VERGILIUS
When descended into the inferno Jesus Christ
to redeem the animæs of the justs
flew to prostrate facing his feet augusts
Vergilius, who of all was the most bright.
 
' Father !' -the worried exclaim- 'now You've seen
that I pained enough ! No more scares !
Look that I abjure the pagans tastes
and to your divine law I don't resist !'
 
His paternals eyes turned Christ
and with sweet and severe voice, told him:
'The mercy of my Father to you forgive,
 
and the Heaven must open its doors
