Dear Miss, I became an alcoholic
since the day I met you.
See, you're so good at serving beers
I just can't get enough of them.
And yet I had lots of other things to do.
Working, for instance,
but you're so pretty!
I had never beheld such a sight in a café.
 
I wash down your glasses
yet you wash me out1
late at night when I crawl on the floor
and it's closing time.
 
It was no rocket science to realize
I wasn't coming for the drinks.
 
All I wanted was to hear you
ask me what I would have,
though you already knew the answer :
'I'll have a beer, please'
I would drain those until I dozed
on my overturned table.
 
I wash down your glasses
yet you wash me out
late at night when I crawl on the floor
and it's closing time.
 
I never took the time to sober up,
I would come back every day.
One morning, noticing your absence,
I asked the girl who stood in for you
why and where you were gone,
and she pointed upwards.
 
Since that dark october day,
dear Miss, I'm sober.
