Afraid of water

A slap and I was awake
A handwritten note that told me
That she had finally found love
Which she had looked for but not found with me.
'You poor fellow, you are completely blown away!'
A doctor's note, and so I was obliged to travel
Three changes, I was sat on the beach a day later
Overcoming my hangover with a cocktail
I sat carelessly looking at my two feet in the sand
'Will you go diving with me later?'
I hear a name and get a hand
How good she smelled, so that didn't seem like a good plan
'I'd prefer to stay on dry land if I have a choice
Is that also okay?'
 
I said:
I am afraid of water, it's too deep for me
All fish bite and I can't see the bottom
And in case of drowning I panic
Maybe later but not for now
 
Day two, book read
I stare at the setting sun
The most beautiful woman that I have ever seen in my life
Steps out of the surf and onto the steps of my balcony
I recognise her perfume
She says: 'are you coming with me?' and turns around
I am afraid of water and so that is how it began
'I once almost drowned,' she said, 'I understand,
But I'll help you through it.'
 
I said:

Fifteen years later
Unbelievable how fast the time went
I see my son standing at the edge of the deep end
Looking at a girl who stood a little further along
She jumps in the water
