Sad Bird

Now it happened again
You say I'm cool1
That I'm not a true friend
That I have enough in myself
Then you sever the tie
And leave me
With scissors in hand
As you turn away

Ice cold dissonant winds
Are blowing in my undercurrent today
Ice-cold atonal thoughts
Have solidified in your head today
And it makes me sad
It makes me black
Sad bird2

Then it happened again
You shut me out
When you think I won't let you in
That I have enough in myself
If only you would
Let me spell it out
Or sing a quiet song about sisterhood

Ice cold dissonant winds
Are blowing in my undercurrent today
Ice-cold atonal thoughts
Have solidified in your head today
And it makes me sorrowful
Black sad bird
It makes me sad bird3

  • 1. In Danish, we use the English 'cool' with the same meaning but 'kølig' means 'cool/chilly' in the meaning of being dismissive or keeping a distance.
  • 2. 'Sad bird' is a reference to the 'Sad Birds' in Astrid Lindgrens 'Mio My Son'. It is also a pun on the Danish words 'sorgfugl/sorgfuld' ('sad bird/sorrowful') that are almost similar in writing and pronunciation.
  • 3. I left out the indefinite article 'a' so as to keep the pun intact.
