O Silent Solitude

O Silent Solitude,
where shall I find pleasure?
Amid sorrow that no one knows
shall my days vanish.
A burden heavy as stone
meets me where I go.
Among a thousand there is hardly one
who understands love correctly.

It is the heaviest sorrow
that the earth may bear
that you should lose
the one dearest to your heart.
It is the heaviest sorrow
that the sun passes over
to love the one
you can never have.

A pure and noble mind,
a virtue that shines,
a mouth that speaks as one
with everything the heart thinks.
I believe such a friend
is more than rare.
Where shall I find the one
who has these virtues?

Between you and me
a flame was lit
a fire was lit
like a daily torment.
How I shall subdue it
I know no counsel for at all.
I will mourn until my death
if I cannot have you.
