Motherland

Motherland, my dear places!
Motherland, the Spring, and my song!
By proud destiny and bright dream
We connected with you forever
Let the blue sky will be above my country
And a golden ray of the dawn!

Motherland, I sing a glory for you!
Motherland, I believe in your wisdom!
All your ways, all your worries
I share with you, my Motherland!
Give me such a job
That my heart will sing!
Trust me as I trust you!

Give me such a job
That my heart will sing!
Trust me as I trust you!

Cossacks in Berlin

Cossacks in Berlin

Horses were walking along a Berlin roadway
To a watering place.
The horses from Don area were going,
Shaking their manes occasionally.
The rider is singing:
“Hey, guys, this is not for the first time
for us to water the Cossack horses
From a foreign river

Chorus X2
Cossacks, Cossacks,
Our Cossacks
Are going through Berlin.

He leads horses at a slow pace,
He sees a girl with a pennant
And who has a nice plait under her sided cap,
Stands at the corner.
With a slender figure, like a willow wand,
And her eyes look by blue.
She bawls to the Cossack:
“Do not slow down traffic!”.

Chorus X2
Cossacks, Cossacks,
Our Cossacks
Are going through Berlin.

He is glad to stay more long here,
But he caught her angry eye,
“Well, guys, march behind me!”
And bawled reluctantly.
The cavalry went by dashingly
And the maiden brightened up.
The tender look she gives the Cossack
Is not by the book

Chorus X2
Cossacks, Cossacks,
Our Cossacks
Are going through Berlin.

The horseman is again going
Along a Berlin roadway.
About his love towards the girl
He sings like this:
“Although my dear home is far away,
Although the blue Don is far away,
A Cossack met
A fellow country woman even in Berlin!”

Chorus X2
Cossacks, Cossacks,
Our Cossacks
Are going through Berlin.

Bells monotonous sound on the harness

Versions: #1
Bells monotonous sound on the harness,
And the wind blows dust on the road,
And through flat endless fields with such sadness
The old coachman's song simply floats.

So much feeling in this sad song is told.
So much sadness of being apart.
That in my chest, so tired and cold,
Like in flame was burning my heart

And I remembered some other nights,
And vast forests and fields so dear,
And to the eyes that forgot how to cry,
Rolled down like a spark bitter tear.

Bells monotonous sound on the harness
Like an echo of my younger days…
And the song was cut short, but the road
Before me far away, far away…

The Little Bell Peals, Droning On

Versions: #1
The little bell peals, droning on,
And the way is lightly dust covered
And sadly through the long corridor
The coachman's song flows forth.

So much emotion was in this sad song
Such feeling in this familiar melody
That in my cool, cold breast
This heart burst into a blaze.

Now I recalled other nights
And those familiar fields and forests,
And in my long arid eyes
There appeared as but a flicker, a tear.

The little bell peals, droning on,
From afar its echo resounds softly,
And my coachman has fallen silent, but the way
The one before me is still so far, so far away.

The Way

The sailors count the tides.
The nannies stay with the children.
The prophecy floors the Pharisees.
Freedom goes out of the alleys.

Unforgettable in you,
Still stronger than you
Is the hope of making your heart vibrate.
Don't abandon the way
And don't lose the trail
Right and magical,
The one
Made for you.

The hand you will hold with yours,
The voice you will hear from oblivion —
Only this way will you be able to rise again.
This is1 what God wants for you.

See the soldiers marching

See1 the soldiers marching
through the scorched steppe.
They softly sing a song
about birches and maples,
about a pensive2 garden
and a weeping willow.
About beloved forests
about beloved forests
and a broad field

See the soldiers marching
Their song rings louder now,
and the song goes about
a fearsome redoubt
and courage under fire
and death for life's sake,
and about their loyalty
and about their loyalty
to our glorious fatherland.

See the soldiers marching
in unfamiliar surroundings.
They'll crush all enemies
and go back home
to the pensive garden,
the weeping willow,
their beloved forests
their beloved forests
and the broad field.

Nostalgia

Like the weeping willow
Sad and tired above the lake,
In the transparent mirror
Of freezing sources,

Look at my alter ego
Inside what I am no longer,
All my memories of a
life that was once
move on...

Nostalgia, you're my lover,
You are the most faithful and sincere.
You understand me, you always defend me,
You are my real partner with me.

~ ~ ~

How many times have I believed
To have erred in life,
As if being lost
Between the truth and the lie.

Red thread between fingers -
My thoughts and feelings -
Stringo strong and meeting
Always at [my] side, nostalgia!

Nostalgia, you're my lover,
You are the most faithful and sincere.
You understand me, you always defend me,
You are my real partner with me.

No, don't make me suffer
If at nightfall you fill my mind and heart
With beautiful poems, photos,
Hope and love.

Nostalgia, you're my lover,
You're the most faithful and sincere.
You understand me, you defend me always,
With me you're a true partner,
True, true, true...

Lonely Accordion

Quiet town at night is so comforting
Doors won’t squeak, no more lights that are lit
Just a lonesome accordion wandering
Somewhere far away down the street

It goes far in the fields through the gateway
Then it comes back to town again
Just as if it is asking for pity
And can’t find anyone to complain

Night gets cooler, the darkness gets deeper
Apple blossom is white as the snow
Just come tell us who made you a weeper
The accordionist a young beau…

May be your joy is not far away
Just not sure if she is the one
So then why are you wandering restless
Keeping young ladies piece so undone…

Quiet city at night is so comforting
Doors won’t squeak, no more lights that are lit
Just a lonesome accordion wandering
Somewhere far away down the street

Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat…

Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat…

Csak bánat, sötét vesz körül,
Utam szomorú, örömtelen,
A múlt már csak távoli álom
Elszorul a kíntól szivem.

Refrén:
Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat,
Már nincs hova is sietnem,
Már nincsen kit is szeretnem,
Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat.

Hogy vágyom komor tájon át
Feledni szerelmet s árulást
De rossz uram, az emlékezés
Mégis mindent újra felidéz.

Refrén: Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat...

Hát minden hazug ámítás volt,
Szép álmomnak vége szakad,
De nyílt sebem fájdalmas kínja,
Az örökre velem marad.

Refrén: Ne hajtsd, kocsis a lovakat...

Darvak

Darvak (Zsuravli)

Úgy tűnik néha, hogy a katonáink
Kik véres harcmezőkön estek el
Nem a mi földünkben nyugszanak ők, de
Átváltoztak hófehér darvakká.

Ők ama réges-régi idők óta
Repülnek és hallatják hangjukat
Talán hogy hallva e szomorú nótát
Elnémulva figyeljük égi útjukat.

Repül, repül a fáradt raj ék alakban
A ködben, mikor véget ér a nap.
És hogyha rendjük közt van egy üres hely,
Az a hely talán énnekem marad.

Eljön a nap, mikor a daru-rajban
A kékes ködben én is ott vagyok,
Mint a madár, úgy kiáltva hozzátok,
Kik lenn a földben ott maradtatok.

Úgy tűnik néha, hogy a katonáink
Kik véres harcmezőkön estek el
Nem a mi földünkben nyugszanak ők, de
Átváltoztak hófehér darvakká.

Ragyogj, ragyogj, én csillagom

Ragyogj, ragyogj, én csillagom

Ragyogj, ragyogj, én csillagom,
Kedves, szerelmes csillagom,
Te vagy az én egyetlen titkom
És másik nem is lesz soha,
Te vagy az én egyetlen titkom
És másik nem is lesz soha.

Varázslatos, szerelmes csillag,
Múlt napjaim szép csillaga
Te változatlan megmaradsz majd,
Nem űz el lelkem bánata,
Te változatlan megmaradsz majd,
Nem űz el lelkem bánata,

Sötét hatalmad égi fénye
Ragyogja be minden napom,
S ha meghalok, sírom felett is
Te égj, ragyogj, én csillagom!
S ha meghalok, sírom felett is
Te égj, ragyogj, én csillagom!

The minutes of silence

Oddly enough, in days of war
There are minutes of silence,
When the battle fall silent of tiredness
And you almost don't hear explosions.
And we standing in days of war,
Deafened by silence.

It happens so in days of war-
We are dreaming in the trenches,
We are dreaming about prewar villages,
Where in the windows the lights are lit.
And in dugouts in days of war
Breathing with peace our dreams.

How to anticipate in advance
Hard road of rifle companies,
Who will get to the nearest river crossing,
Who will reach long awaited victory?
How to anticipate in advance,
Hard road of rifle companies?

Oddly enough, in days of war
There are minutes of silence,
When the battle fall silent of tiredness
And you almost don't hear explosions.
And we standing in days of war,
Deafened by silence.

Bright is the night

Night is bright, quiet moonlight above the river,
And the blue wave shines with silver.
Dark forest... There, in the quiet of emerald branches
Nightingale doesn't sing it's sonorous songs.

Blue flowers are blossomed under the moon,
They waking up the dreams in my heart.
I'm flying to you in my dreams, repeating your name,
Dear friend, gentle friend, I'm missing you.

Dear friend, gentle friend, loving you as before,
I remember you under the moon this night.
This night under the moon in a foreign land,
Dear friend, gentle friend, remember me.

Dear friend, gentle friend, remember me!

Somewhere far away

Versions: #1#2
Far away from this weary fray,
Keen heartache, all my dreams to forsake,
Bear me high into a cold grey sky
Taking wing to the home that waits there
From this place to the home that awaits me...

Days gone by, where the sunlight glints
On grass-lined banks, let me catch just a glimpse
Of those distant hills and those yearned-for shores,
Ach, if I could I would fly back to them
And I’d swim in those crystal waters…

Somewhere far away, very far away,
Raindrops are falling from high,
By the little stream, in the orchard glade,
Where boughs of cherries are bent to the ground.
Somewhere far away, in my memory,
Now, as in childhood, I see –
Though smothered, like rooftops,
With the dull, heavy snows of the winter –

Stormy skies, let your tears baptise
Souls that are scarred, but that's not all that we are,
Mesmerised, by what's been memorised,
I’ll lift my gaze to the wide blue yonder
And from there I will seek for the answer...

Far away from this weary fray,
Keen heartache, all my dreams to forsake,
Bear me high into a cold grey sky
Taking wing to the home that waits there
From this place to the home that's awaiting me.
