Like a sign

Each of us1 knew
we'd end up firing.
I'm falling in slow-mo, too bad.
I was the one you were aiming at.
I just happened to be around,
I wasn't expecting anything from you.
Everything happens too fast, too fast.
I feel the setback2 coming.

Though they say a lot about you,
I don't believe any of it,
because when you're on top of me3
I pay no heed to all this4.
There is all that they don't see
and throbs inside of you,
because when you're on top of me
I pay no heed to all this.

You and me as if
we were out of time5.
You show6 on my skin.
You and me like a sign7.
That's the only thing I need.
You show on my skin.

We had noticed each other
I soon saw myself spin out of control.
Even if I breathe in and out
I see doubts lining up.
I'm tired but I'm there8
I behold my downs from up above9
We have to sort it out,
to shine some light on it under the moonlight10

Though they say a lot about you,
I don't believe any of it,
because when you're on top of me
I pay no heed to all this.
There is all that they don't see
and throbs inside of you,
because when you're on top of me
I pay no heed to all this.

You and me as if
we were out of time.
You show on my skin,
you and me like a sign.
That's the only thing I need.
You show on my skin.

You and me as if
we were out of time.
You show on my skin,
you and me like a sign.
That's the only thing I need.
You show on my skin.

  • 1. he obviously means 'we both' but uses an inappropriate expression
  • 2. 'revers' sounds pretty odd here
  • 3. I can find no double meaning to this pretty crude sexual image
  • 4. 'I'm well above all this'. It's not very clear whether he means he disregards all what they say about her or making love to her is more important than anything
  • 5. or maybe 'time betrayed us'. Again this is weird French has no clear meaning
  • 6. lit. 'draw yourself' but the usual meaning of 'se dessiner' is 'appear' or 'become visible'
  • 7. a sign of what, I have no idea
  • 8. just there for the aliteration
  • 9. that sounds awkward in French too
  • 10. terribly awkward pun on 'clair (de lune)' [moonlight] and 'clarifier' [clarify], which doesn't make any sense here ('clarify each other' ???)
