• 1. Technically, in the original German, this is singular, and doesn't use a possessive ('salt still burns in the eye') -- so it is ambiguous as to whether it refers to the 'she' introduced in the next line.
• 2. Literally, 'no way leads back'
• 3. Literally, 'if it thunders, you run/ if it burns, you flee/ and if you capsize, you just swim' but I thought this sounded more natural without significantly changing the meaning.
• 4. A looser translation that I considered but ultimately rejected: 'this spark that sets it all off'. While 'spark' is not an accurate translation of 'das Fleckchen', it better fits with the connotation of 'losgehen' that I think is intended here: it does mean 'to start', but it's informal, like 'to kick off' in English, and it's also used to mean 'go off' -- bombs, for example, 'gehen los' in colloquial German just like they 'go off' in colloquial English.
• 5. Literally, 'that one already carries with oneself'
• 6. 'die Havarie' means 'accident' or 'disaster', but from what I can see, is more commonly used as a term of art in insurance to refer specifically to shipwrecks and plane crashes, and given the immediately preceding reference to being on dry land as well as the earlier one to capsizing, 'shipwreck' seemed more apt.

• 1. In the original German this line is just 'enjoy the production', but the added 'sit back and' makes it fit the meter and doesn't materially change the meaning.
• 2. 'atzen' specifically refers to feeding young animals, generally birds (imagine a mother bird regurgitating food to feed her young). It can, of course, also be used humorously, ironically, or pejoratively with a person, as it is here.
• 3. I translated this as 'specters' rather than 'ghosts' because I suspect that it is supposed to be an allusion to Karl Marx's quote 'A specter is haunting Europe -- the specter of Communism', which uses 'Gespenst' in the original German. However, I suspect that in this case, the specters are the right-wing parties rising to prominence across Europe, rather than communism.
