The hermit from the old retreat
A day he hosted as we speak
of worldly matters
bitter love
in tongue and cheek.
On taking leave I did him probe
what hidden call made him en robe
and seek safe haven with the guys?
His answer was: “Those two blue eyes”.
The hermit from the old retreat
in hidden grief his mind did fleet
and then his closest friends contrived
for him in madhouse to survive.
A second time we met, I asked:
What did you seek in the outcast?
I knew you dwelling in the skies

The monk in the old hermitage
One day I stayed with him
And he spoke to me of the world
And bitter, and beloved
When I left, I asked him
'What longing he hid from you, he urged you
Looking for a place among the hermits?'
He replied, 'Two blue eyes.'

In hidden longing he went mad
And then his good friends
They took him to the madhouse
I saw him again, I asked him:
What did you look for among the lunatics?
I knew you among the hermits
He replied, 'Two blue eyes.'
The monk in the old hermitage
He died of the same longing
And at the grave, among the hermits
Two blue eyes wept bitterly
