The unusual marriage of Breton Mary

She took off her apron
To put on a marriage gown
She hid her hands in gloves
And her feet in white slippers
She looked at herself in the mirror
And she thought she was beautiful

Then she stepped down the stairs singing
Offering her smiles to the springtime
To the great trees, to the flowers and to the birds
She sat down near the pond
Watching and admiring herself
In the water

It was when she wanted to get back up
That she saw a young man approach
He seemed to come from the deep of the water
All drenched, she found him beautiful
And she understood by the look he gave her
That he found her beautiful

And her body did not resist
And love grew wide inside her
And at the castle, the bell rang
It was then that the stranger
Went lost, disappeared
Into the water
She went back up to the attic
And back into the wicker case she put
The gown, the slippers and the gloves
Putting her white apron back on
To prepare the evening meal
Do the dishes
