The Mask

La la la...

Twenty years ago, I used to dress up too!
And I still keep the cardboard snout
which served to hide mine.
It’s been twenty years of a redemption
that funny mask has remained
always with the same expression,
always with the same laugh.

Once I asked it: - How do you
keep the same good mood
even in moments of pain,
even when I’m in trouble?

Happy you, who never change!
Happy you, who live without a heart! -

La la la...

The Mask replied: - And you who cry,
what do you get? Nothing! You get
that people will say: poor devil,
I pity you... I’m so sorry...
But deep down, believe me, they don’t give a damn!
Instead, do as I do, I always laughed:
and if melancholy takes you,
cover your face with my face,
so people won’t get upset... -

From then on, I hide the pain
behind a cardboard face happy
and I came out as an egoist
who doesn’t care about humanity!

La la la...

Happy you, who never change!
Happy you, who live without a heart! -

La la la...

Faith

That blind old woman I met
the night I got lost in the thick of the forest,
told me: - If you don’t know the way,
I’ll take you there, ’cause I know it.
If you have the strength to follow me,
I’ll shout out to you every once in a while,
until you get down there, where the cypress is,1
until you get up there, where the Cross is…
I replied: - If you say so … but I find it strange
that someone who can’t see could be able to lead me … -
So, the blind woman took my hand,
and sighed - Let’s walk! - She was Faith.
