Rest Under the Star
The house was quiet, they were all settled. They all could sleep, but not the two of us.
Grandmother pointed, a little boy looked.
And the sky was velvet up where the stars lay.
So rest under the star that you gave me once.
Evening became night, and you hummed a song.
You spot the Big Dipper, and Bethlehem's lights.
Then you gave the finest one to me.
A bow shot up in the sky, and a star fell down.
Two played up islands, and the little boy asks.
You knew the answer, as all old folk do.
When a shooting star falls, that is someone who's died.
So rest under the star, that was me one time.
But now it's the storming that whispers a song.
A boy in pajamas, a window sees all.
The ring is closed, as a shooting star fell.
