I came to the western paradise,became a farmhand at the shores of Päijänne,
I found a place oh, so heavenly
from there i got the first meal of the day
and they sang:
Welcome to the west, Andrej!
you'll work the oddjobs at our farmlands
This is your way up to the sky,
This is the way to your final freedom
From the station of Vainikkala
I came on foot, had to save my pennies.
I heard a weird national anthem
To my small home behind the woodshed
when they were singing:

Oh, i'm doing well here
In my welfare state
I didn't use to have a thing
Still, every once in a while i glance to the east
when i hear them sing:
