Rhineland girl

Once upon a time the Lord was in the mood to
Give a lot of beauty to the Rhineland girl.
He gave her above all a golden laughter,
Only a child from the Rhine has so much ceerfulness and high spirits.

(refrain 2x)
So, should I in my life once marry a girl,
Then she has to be born on the Rhine!

The women from the Danube I fairly like to see,
Like the ones from the Elbe and the ones from the Spree.
But whereof the poet always sings in a thousand songs,
This one, the one from the Rhine, puts everyone into a frenzy:

(refrain 2x)

Homesickness for Cologne

I was born in Cologne near the Rhine,
I have, and that is on my mind,
Not yet lost my mother tongue,
That is something I am proud of.

(refrain)
When I'm thinking of my homeland
And I see the Cathedral standing in front of me
||:I would immediatly like to be homward bound,
I would like to walk by foot to Cologne. :||

I have sung so many times about the Rhine,
About our beautiful, german river,
So german like my songs sounded here,
So german stays Cologne with it's Cathedral.

(refrain)

And if one day the Lord should call me,
I'll tell Saint Peter:
'I can tell you remorseful
That I yearn for Cologne.'

(refrain)

And when one day, I look down on my
Hometown from the heavens above,
I want to whisper up there
How much I love you, my Cologne.
