We Don't Need Great Toasts

We don't need great toasts,
No need for ringing glasses,
We take no delight in this vodka,
Which we have now in our mugs.
We still hold in our memory
Dust-covered battalions,
And our fallen comrades,
Who will always live among us.
 
The first toast is to those who have gone into eternity,
May they rest in peace in the earth.
We also remember all the living,
Let's honor them with quiet words.
The second toast is to luck and courage,
To our comrades, strong in spirit,
To remain young at heart,
And the friends they didn't leave behind.
 
In the harsh Afghan landscape,
Under a strange, unwelcoming sky,
Our strong friendship was born,
Which aided us in battle more than once!
Let's raise a third toast to this brotherhood,
Let's share the salt and bread,
May our friendship be forever,
We are bound forever here!
