• 5. I have seen 'Platte' in this line replaced with 'Watte'='cotton wool' and translated it as 'Watte', albeit with a little tweaking. I believe 'Watte' here is coming from the saying 'jmdn in Watte packen'='to wrap someone in cotton wool/to be overprotective of someone'. In this case, her father 'wrapped her in cotton wool' as she grew up, and upon her father's death the singer comforts her by reminding her of how much her father loved her (as evidenced by how much he protected her from the outside world). Hence comforting her with her father's 'cotton wool' actually refers to her father's love of her.
