Whale Fall

Blowing hot and cold, then suddenly warming up
Ebbing and flowing, pulling the stars under
Inseparable with the sea, yet ending up stranded ashore

Before me lies nothing but the dark night
Let the rough seas rage on over yonder
Scary as it may be, I could still lie down peacefully, not caring how the water splashes about

Let me be encoffined in water and become a dessert
It’s only fair that I be transformed into nutrients – there's no need to be sentimental about it

How can I be worthy of love when I’m sunk deep in the ocean?
If the doomed fate of our relationship had long been sealed
There’d be no need to dwell on whether one had it or not
The reward is seeing those smiling faces

As the whale falls under, only the cold radiates on
While silence slowly descends upon the sunless abyss
Let the fish come and feast
On this carcass buried in the ocean trench, a legacy for the living

How can I imagine myself spreading my wings, soaring the skies?
Swimming in the sea with flippers is nowhere as smooth
Though they are alike, why haven’t I seen myself take off with mine?

No matter how many times I breach the surface, it’s still like this
The whale flaps its wings but never reaches the sky, as its remaining years are lost to the deep sea

The soul attaches itself to bubbles and surfaces

1991, A night which cold wind blew

1991, A night which cold wind blew
at that year's winter,
white snows fell
enough to cover all over the world.
my little childhood song
which I sang loud,
leaning on a small window was...
as I grow up fast
and become taller,
I've said that I'll always take care of you.
I ask for you
who cannot sleep well
worrying about me,
If the sky allows
and I born again,
please be my proud mother again.

For beautiful you
who stood by me and smiled
in joy and in sorrow,
my little childhood wish
which I prayed for overnight,
rubbing my sleepy eyes was...
as I grow up fast
and become taller,
I've said that I'll always take care of you.
I ask for you
who cannot sleep well
worrying about me,
If the sky allows
and I born again,
please be my proud mother again.
