The Waltz Of The Unemployed
When I wandered like a hoboIt had happened to me too,
I didn't have a job,
I went to the factories and mines,
But everywhere all I heard was:

Maybe some day we'll need you,

When I started to feel hungry
I looked for help in the breadline.
But they had already distributed everything
I had to leave with an empty stomach.
And again the distributor said to me:

If you're hungry again tomorrow,
Then you come around again!
Now I'm looking for a room
So I might at least sleep the night,
but my hopes were crushed again,
for all the rooms had been rented away.
And again everyone told me:
Come around again, yes, come around again!
In case someone happens to move away,
you never know, but come around again!
I also met many old sweetheart
during my travels.
She was already married, so I figured.
she might invite me to her home.
I was wrong again, and again I got to hear:
Come around again, yes, come around again!
Sometime when my husband is at work,
then you come around again!
Finally I considered travelling to heaven
And leaving this land for another.
But I'm a little concerner,
That I'll have to wait there too.
What if Peter says at the gate:

Abraham's bosom is full now,
But next spring come around again!
Though I walk around hungry
I get comfort from the knowledge,
That one day the masters will in turn
Have to queue in the breadline.
And then I too will get to say:
