10 years

I have arrived this morning, to my hometown
Ten years have passed since then
I haven't seen her [in that time],
I will look for her

I ring the doorbell, an apartment I'm very familiar with
Politely, I will say, 'Good day'
A stranger opens, and says,
'She no longer lives here'

Oh, it irks me, why I constantly think of her
Although I truly no longer have any reason to
Ten years have passed, yet I still love her

Ten years have passed in an instant
I'm aware I will never again be hers
But it irks me, why I still still love her

She told me once, 'Stop fooling around, boy
I love you, you know that,
Look around you, see,
The whole world is ours'

But I like every other haughty Balkan man
I stubbornly, I know, did things my way
Now it's too late for everything
Oh Tonny, you dolt, dolt, dolt

It irks me, why I constantly think of her
Although I truly no longer have any reason to
Ten years have passed, yet I still love her

Ten years have passed in an instant
I'm aware I will never again be hers
But it irks me, why I still still love her

We where two bodies that breathe together
I recorded records and everyone's swinging now
I wish that, people, I forgot all of that

She put up with it, that wise lass
She only told me 'Get lost' and 'Thanks'
I have arrived this morning, I miss her

Oh, it irks me, why I constantly think of her
Although I truly no longer have any reason to
Ten years have passed, yet I still love her

Ten years have passed in an instant
I'm aware I will never again be hers
But it irks me, why I still still love her

It irks me, why I constantly think of her
Although I truly no longer have any reason to
Ten years have passed, yet I still love her

Ten years have passed in an instant
I'm aware I will never again be hers
But it irks me, why I still still love her

1,2,3,4

You love playin’
But I’m not a game
You love sayin’
That you’re not to blame
And I’ll follow you
Maybe once maybe twice
Or maybe I’ll follow you
‘Till the end of times
Like 1,2,3,4 every time I need you more
But you don’t need me
4,3,2,1 seems like you already won
I’ll die waiting right here
You love playin’
I said I’m not a game
Games won’t even matter
When we all be dead
Like 1,2,3,4 every time need you more
And you don’t need me
4,3,2,1, seems like you already won
I’ll die waiting right here
I’ll die waiting and you’ll die for her
We’ll die waitin’ in vain (x8)

Russia is my motherland!

When I go to Moscow,
Where the grass smells like mint,
Nature whispers to me with love
My treasured words.
In the distance, the dawn strip
Burns with an autumn flame.
My familiar birch
Speaks quietly to me.

Russia, Russia,
Native, free lands.
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!

When sometimes I sail along the Volga
And the seagull curls behind the stern,
I look, I look at the shore for a long time
It doesn't part with me.
I wave a friendly hand,
And the shore is near,
And someone sings late over the river
In a split voice

Russia, Russia,
Native, free lands.
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!

When a Moscow train
Takes me to distant places,
Bread is bowed to my belt.
The early star is blinking.
I went to the voice of the motherland.
How good you are, Russia!
I look around and hear in my heart,
Sings, sings, my soul.

Russia, Russia,
Native, free lands.
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!
Russia, Russia,
Russia is my motherland!

Homeland

Shoot me like a prodigal son
I am ready to go to the ends of the Earth with my love for you
Punch me in the face until it's deformed
I am tired of wandering around.

I only ask one thing for that
To turn off the blasting noise for a while.
I find places that are precious to my heart
In the beautiful songs of nightingales.

Sweet home - an abandoned railroad car in the field,
I can't hold back my tears when I see pictures of birch trees.
You are mine to the last ruble,
It's impossible to prohibit to unconditionally love your homeland.

A concrete Faberge egg is risen
Surrounded by a circle of garages.
The bluebird of happiness constantly demands sacrifice
And waits for the slaughter of the goat.

There is grief all over his face
His bed is laid among thorn bushes
Please tell me why the Evil Empire
Is onto me, I am trying to understand.

Sweet home - an abandoned railroad car in the field,
I can't hold back my tears when I see pictures of birch trees.
You are mine to the last ruble,
It's impossible to prohibit to unconditionally love your homeland.

100 év magány

Szomorú vagyok
S te, az első őszi esővel
Ravaszul, ügyesen s észrevétlenül
Az álmaimba lopódzol

Majd a páncél leesik rólam
Kedvtelenül s búsan ébredek
Az éjek esősek, hidegek
Menthetetlen s lefegyverezett vagyok

Bánatot s nehézséget
Hozol be a szobámba
A kín soha se ér véget
S átadom magam a kétségbeesésnek

Ref.
Nem kell nekem tömlöc
Nedvességgel s hideggel tele
Az én szobám egy zárka
Száz év magányra

Látom, hogy egy helyben botorkálok
Hogy minden üresen járkál
Ledőlt kártyavár
Zátonyra futott hajó

Szomorú vagyok
S te, az első őszi esővel
Ravaszul, ügyesen s észrevétlenül
Az álmaimba lopódzol

Bánatot s nehézséget
Hozol be a szobámba
A kin soha se ér véget
S átadom magam a kétségbeesésnek

Motherland

Touching the three great oceans,
It lies, spreading its cities about,
Covered by grid of meridians,
Invincible, wide and proud.

But in an hour, when the last grenade
Already primed in your hand
And in a brief moment a need to remember, before it's late
All, what we've left in a distant land,

What you remember, is not a big country, with no end,
The one you travelled and new so good,
You do remember, the one and only Motherland,
The way you saw it in your childhood.

A piece of land, adjacent to the three birch trees,
A distant road behind the forest,
A little river with a creaky ferriage,
A sandy river bank with low osier-bed.

That's where we were lucky to be born,
Where for the rest of our life, till death we found
The handful of earth, that is good for
To see the signs in it, of the land around.

Yes, you can survive the heat, thunderstorm, disease,
Yes, you can starve and freeze,
Go to die... But this three birch trees
Can not be given to anyone, while you alive and breathe.

The motherland listens

The motherland listens
The motherland knows
Where in the skies
Her son flies about
With a friendly touch
And tender love
Under the scarlet stars
The towers of Moscow
The Kremlin towers
She watches over you

The motherland listens
The motherland knows
How many struggles
Her sons victory takes
But he won't falter
righteous and courageous
with all your destiny's (powers)
you will contend
you will protect
the world is a great marvel
the world is a great marvel!

The motherland listens
The motherland knows
That her son
is well on his way
How through the clouds
you're forcing your way
though there might be dark storms
do not be angry
Whatever may happen
be strong, comrade
be strong, comrade!

The heaven for height, and the earth for depth,
and the heart of kings is unsearchable. (Prov 25:3 KJV)

Never (two thousand and some years)

Find a way
find a new world
I am allergic to fear
and I am even worse than before

There is no reason for me to believe in everything
save your spilled sweat
my pain is, still, only mine

Everything is like a dream
and as if we have already been there
on some day at the same time
that is following us since childhood1

I dreamed of you, you are hammering nails
my hands are bleeding
I can, like, bear everything

I wish for an instant
that I was no longer there
that I simply stop
to look for a guiding star

Well, you see, that's a lie
and there is no cure for it
when you think it's over
and it's only just beginning

For once in your lifetime
raise the white flag
and accept it as your victory

Awareness for the common good
gather the wounded
and give2 them salt
let them steel themselves

An artificial smile
that takes away your sin
to a waiting list
to a lasting list, with no regret

He hides his face
and his hands are full of gifts
and he's waiting to give you
waiting to give you

Eyes so big, he can see everything with them
but he is so old
he hasn't got the nerves
disgraced and grey-haired
ice in his eyes

The same role for two thousand
and some years
and he will never arrive
and he will never arrive
never, never on time

  • 1. Literally 'since the little legs', which is a phrase meaning 'since childhood', 'since we were little/children'.
  • 2. A slightly formal, archaic form here, could also be translated as 'grant'.

The Family

Maybe in life someone will be charmed
By some enchanting, seductive eyes.
Only the family like a star is united
Your only salvation is - a safe mooring.
No, do not look in your heart for a reason,
If your unbelief overtakes you ...
Only the family in your trying hour
Will lay sure hope upon your shoulder.

Chorus:
The family, the family - from father to son
From mother to daughter will give goodness
The family, the family - is all of Ukraine
With it's deep roots, and oh it's high branches.

In sea of temptation, there are great waves
But do not forget in all your endeavors,
That only the family - is a balm remedy,
A cure from old age and your loneliness.
Everything blossoms, and withers, and dies,
Is blown by the wind as if it be rubbish ...
Only the family, is as the eternal seed,
On the immortal field of life.

Homeland

Night, Moon and Zuid-West (South-West in Dutch).
Surf scented with salt.
Sand under my feet.
Above me the Southern Cross - I came back home.

Chorus:
Mom, do you hear the roar of the Southern seas?
Mom, do you see this tumultuous arrogance?
Mom, let me forget in my sleep as soon as possible -
My homeland is here!

Rain, lantern and an entrance,
The sky smells of winter.
Wet asphalt all around
And asbestos panels...
I came back home.

Chorus:
Mom, do you hear the whisper of the winter fields?
Mom, do you see this snowy slurry?
Mom, let me forget in my sleep as soon as possible -
My homeland is here!

My homeland is here...

Mom, do you hear the voices of blood of different origin?
Mom, do you see this stormy mix?
Mom, let me forget in my sleep as soon as possible -
My homeland is here!

My homeland is here...
(I came back home)

The Motherland

Chorus:
Know that I will be next to you until your final breath,
until your last moment - I promise!
For me you are shores and sea.
This Bulgarian heart of mine will beat for you.

The Motherland! (she is, she is so precious) (x4)

When I was little the spark was ignited,
I'm a chess piece, but not the queen.
I love my hometown, there under the hills.
Freedom is the wind and we are the passers.

When you enter a classroom know that it's a temple.
If I watch the news I feel ashamed.
With a hand on my heart I forgive
and promise myself to fight for freedom.

She is, she is so precious! (x2)

Chorus:
Know that I will be next to you until your final breath,
until your last moment - I promise!
For me you are shores and sea.
This Bulgarian heart of mine will beat for you.

The Motherland! (she is, she is so precious) (x4)

Motherland is not just a word, it is a feeling.
I am free to feel, no need to be reminded.
Fly the flags, but the branded ones.
Remember the heroes, love your compatriots.
